TIPS ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GARAGE FLOOR

When you pull into your garage after a long day of work the last thing you want to do is look at those horrible oil stains from your dripping car, or those awful, black, tire marks that are made every time you come in. Just like your living room floor, you want to keep your garage floor clean too. Sometimes it can seem like a dreadful thing to do. With these tips I will show you easy ways to have a clean and keep a clean garage floor.

Kitty Litter

With those pesky oil stains the first thing you need to do is pour kitty litter on it. There are alternative, more expensive oil absorbers, but kitty litter is cheap and does the exact same thing. By just pouring a handful on the spot and waiting a few minutes you can sweep it up and the oil will be gathered and gone.

Now that the main collection of oil is gone you will be left with a black stain in the middle of your floor. Grab some Dawn dish soap from under your sink and get a bucket of hot water, boiling if you’re able to. Mix the Dawn and hot water together and pour it on the spot. Grab a brush and scrub it into the stain, after minutes the stain should start to disappear.

Pressure Washer

If you have stains that have been there for years the above methods might take a longer time to get rid of. If you have access to a pressure washer or are able to rent one from your local hardware store, get it and hook it up to your garden hose. Spray on the spot directly after you have let your Dawn dish soap sit for a few minutes.  If the pressure washer isn’t an option you can get a nylon brush to scrub the spot.

Tire Marks

These take longer to get rid of. For those tire marks get a cleaner that is high in “Orange Concentrate.” Just leave it on for 1-2 hours then do the steps above. The orange concentrate will lift those tire marks off and leave your floor looking brand new.

Keeping your garage floor clean is just as imperative as anything else. Letting oil, rust and other stains remain on the concrete can weaken its base and cause it to crack. Use those methods and keep money in your pocket and car feeling happy every time it pulls into the garage.
