5 Tips To Organized Moving
03/11/2013Moving into a new home can be very exciting. Everything is brand new and you have the chance to create the home you have always pictured. The only thing that seems to be getting in the way is packing up everything that you own.
For many, packing is simply throwing items into a box and hoping that nothing breaks during the move. If this sounds like you, take a look at how you can prevent damage by following these tips to organized moving.
Categorize: Normally your items are fairly easy to categorize. Your Pots and pans are in the kitchen, the stack of picture frames belongs in the living room, and your towels and rags belong in the bathroom. The first step to organizing your packing is to make sure that each of your items stays in its correct category. This is the ideal time to go through all of your items and get rid of things that you don’t need.
Wrap breakable Items: Be sure to wrap any and all glass and fragile items such as dinnerware, art, mirrors etc. in bubble wrap or newspaper. This will keep them from getting scratched and broken.
Label: Labeling is the key to keeping your items organized while moving. Label each box with its correct category and if you are a true overachiever, try using sub categories as well. For example, lets say you pack a box full of plates, bowls, cups, and silverware. Your label on the box would say Kitchen, dinnerware.
Up to the top: In order to stack your boxes it is important to fill each box to the top. If you don’t do this, boxes that are flimsy will buckle under pressure. Remember to keep it a tolerable weight so you are able to carry it. When stacking boxes always place heavier boxes on the bottom, this will help reduce breakage.
Lose ends: Clean out all dressers, appliances, and any other large items that are unable to fit in a box. Be sure to secure all of their doors and drawers to prevent accidents. Use furniture covers for over exposed places to prevent scratches. When loading your items onto a moving truck be sure to load your bigger items first.
By following these tips you can create an organized moving plan. This will keep you from being overwhelmed and keep your items together so you are able to easily organize your new home.
