How to Spring Clean Your Garage
02/20/2015Spring is right around the corner. That means warmer weather and the need to clean everything that the Winter weather took its toll on. Use these tips to Spring clean your garage.
You’ve put this task off for far too long. It’s time to get rid of the junk that is cluttering your garage. Start by removing everything from your garage. Yes, I mean everything. By taking all your items out of the garage, you’ll be able to better envision what can go in the space. Plus, looking at a cleared out area is super empowering!
Now that things are out in the open, go through it and decide what you want to keep, throw away, and donate. If you haven’t used an item in over a year and a half, it’s time to part with it. Remember, the less clutter you have, the happier you will be. Plus, you’ll have room to store new items that you buy. (And who doesn’t want an excuse to buy new things?) It wouldn’t really be Spring cleaning the garage unless you got rid of some stuff, right?
Once you have moved everything out of the garage and condensed things to the bare minimum, it’s time to put it back in the garage. But before you go throwing stuff in their old, hard to reach spots, you should really take some time to think about when and where you use specific items. Do you use the yard tool rack in the back yard? Then put it in an easy to reach spot by the back door. Do you only use your wood working equipment inside the garage? Then put them on a workbench toward the back. A good rule of thumb is to store less frequently used items up high, and more frequently used items an arm’s reach away.
There are many different and unique garage storage systems that can help you achieve the garage of your dreams. Plus, if you have a garage organization system in place, keeping your garage organized over time will become easier.
