Garage Organization Made Easy

There's nothing easy about clutter. Looking through poorly stacked, unorganized boxes and piles to find that long, lost item is probably the last thing you want to do. So, what's the solution to the chaotic mess? The Monkey Bars storage system, plus one dedicated family "garage organization" day is most likely all you'll need to bring your life back in order.

Nobody likes clutter and piles. If you think about it, having a clean and organized storage space for your tools, toys and packed up boxes makes you feel better about opening that garage door.

The easiest way to get that garage into shape quickly is to first pull all the stuff out of hiding. You'll have to move everything anyway in order for your Gorgeous Garage installation team to put up your new shelves and hooks. Once you've got a clean space and all that empty shelving space to work with, organizing will be a breeze.

De-Clutter 101

The first thing to keep in mind about organization is to "be ruthless." Work from the basic reasoning that if you haven't used it in a couple of years, you probably don't need it. Have garbage cans on hand and throw away things that are broken or unable to salvage. You may want to make another pile for Goodwill, just as long as you resist the temptation to slide that pile back into the garage after your clean-up is done.

Invest in plastic totes. They resist moisture, can be clearly labeled, and they don't sag when the weather gets damp. Cardboard boxes fine for moving, but not the greatest thing for permanent shelf organization.

Once your totes are packed and labeled, store them in a logical order. Totes with holiday decorations should be kept up high, since you'll only have to get them down once every year. Bulky tools and gardening supplies should be stored on lower shelves with up to two rows of hooks (front and back) that can be arranged according to the season. During the fall, rakes can be moved to the front hooks with the snow shovels in the back. Once winter hits, simply switch places. Doesn't this sound like an organizational dream come true?

Children's toys, wagons and bikes can be kept on the garage floor during the summer months, but quickly hung on our sturdy hooks once the winter snow appears.

With the whole family helping, it will also encourage everyone to help keep the garage neat and clean once the project is complete. Everyone, including the children will be proud of the big accomplishment and eager to help keep it that way.

Once you've spent the day sorting, packing, labeling and organizing, you'll be ready for the final touch. Open that garage door and pull the family vehicle into its new home. Won't it be nice to finally have the floor space for its intended purpose? No more parking in the harsh elements or making a mad dash from the car to the house during a rain storm. With your new Monkey Bar system, you'll be able to truly enjoy all the comforts of home.
