First Steps to Garage Organization

You've done it! You've finally taken that step towards an uncluttered garage by purchasing a Monkey Bars garage shelving and storage system. It's installed, beautiful and ready to be filled with all of your garage items. Wait! Before you start piling everything up on your newly found space, let's take a crash course in organization.

Items You'll Need for Optimum Organization

If you are really serious about an uncluttered garage, it's going to take a bit more effort on your part than just moving items from the floor to the shelves. Now that you have this golden opportunity, don't let it get away. Get all the gear you'll need for a day of real organizing!

First, you'll need some sturdy totes, boxes and possibly some smaller see-thru containers. A pack of white labeling stickers and a magic marker should be part of your organizational weaponry as well. Last, you'll need a large garbage can (or possibly two) for the items you'll be discarding.

Once you've gathered these items, you'll need to put on your ruthless attitude and get to work. As you begin to uncover things that you 'might need someday,' don't fall for it. You don't need that 1/4 bag of dark brown grout or the set of mismatched golf clubs your Uncle Fred gave you when he was cleaning out his garage. Remember...ruthless! Throw the grout away and give the golf clubs to your local Goodwill. Or how about a garage sale. That can put some extra cash in your pocket.

Now it's Time to Sort and Label

Once you've set aside or disposed of the unwanted items, it's time to get those totes, bins, and boxes open and ready to be filled.

Separate into piles:

  • Tools

  • Holiday items

  • Rarely used items

  • Toys

  • Sporting equipment

  • Car care supplies and cleaners

You get the idea. Once you've separated everything, you can start placing the items into appropriate totes and clearly labeling them.

 Storing High/Storing Low

Use the high and out of the way shelves for yearly items, such as holiday decor and rarely used items such as keepsakes.

Building downward, you'll end up with the most accessible items, such as tools and car care supplies on the bottom shelves. With the Monkey Bar garage shelving and storage system you don't have to resort to boxes and totes for everything either. Tools can be hung conveniently within reach.

The Monkey Bar organizational system is the ultimate way to reclaim your garage space. With the sturdiest and most versatile equipment available, you will have easy access to bikes, yard tools and anything else you use on a regular basis. And since the Monkey Bars system has been designed for strength and efficiency--your racks, shelves and hooks will still be in place for years to come. In fact, with our iron clad lifetime warranty, the Monkey Bar system is the only one you'll ever need. That's good news!

No matter how you stack it, an organized garage is a beautiful thing!
