Advantages of Garage Storage Systems Vs. Sheds

Many people in need of storage space wonder why they should consider using a garage storage system instead of a traditional storage shed, and though we cannot change everyone's mind, we are here to tell you why we think garage storage systems are more effective than using a shed.

You may not be able to envision it fully, since your garage may currently seem like an endless abyss, filled with boxes, tools scattered here and there, your children's toys, and leftovers from last summer's garage sale. Good news...Even though you may not be able to envision a clean, neatly organized garage with plenty of room for lawn equipment, bicycles, and holiday decorations--we can! We've been down this road numerous times with countless satisfied clients, and we know how it's done.

What Using a Backyard Storage Shed Means

If you want to use a shed, you will first have to buy or build it yourself. Not all sheds are built of the same quality and not all of them are built with the same amount of space. You will spend a lot of time trying to figure out what kind of shed you need, the kind of space you need in the shed, and where you are going to put it.

After you make your purchase, you will have to figure out how to get it home and most likely pay a delivery fee if you can't get it there yourself. Besides all that, sheds are scary. They are dark, damp, and generally have bugs, spiders and other unwelcome creepy things in them. Doesn't sound much like fun, does it?

What Using a Monkey Bar Garage Storage System Means

When you decide to use a garage storage system, it's as simple as calling us for a quote. You tell us more about what kind of garage you have, what your storage needs are, and your budget. We will help you decide on the right system for you. We will even come out and professionally install it for you while you relax. The Monkey Bar system is specifically designed to hold more weight than you'll ever need, so you can utilize shelving as well as wall hanging space for all your items to keep the garage floor clean and empty for its intended purpose, your cars.

With a garage storage system, you will have a completely custom solution, designed to fit your lifestyle and your needs. Our system will make the most of wall space so you don't have to worry about using your garage floor for piling up boxes. It will be stronger than any storage shed and help you make better use of space you already have rather than having to purchase additional space. And wouldn't you rather walk through a door into your garage instead of trekking across the backyard to your shed?

Keep everything within reach right in your clean, vermin free garage. Use the Monkey Bar garage shelving system. It'll make your life so much easier.

Why Using Ceiling Mounted Shelves Block Light

In today’s world where most people park their cars in the driveway and leave their garage to hold their large accumulation of acquired 'stuff', an organization method is becoming an essential item. The question is, do you need ceiling mounted shelves or wall mounted shelves? There are any number of reasons to argue which system is better. Both systems keep items off of the floor. Both utilize the equipment to the best it can handle. If parking your car is a priority, then getting sports equipment, toys, holiday ornaments, files and keepsakes off of the floor is a priority.

One question that is not always considered when choosing a garage storage system is if the system will block the light inside the garage. Wall storage systems are far enough from the ceiling so as to not block any artificial or natural lighting. However, when hanging a ceiling mounted shelving unit, there are multiple places in which ceiling mounted shelves can cause windows to be covered or light fixtures to be blocked out entirely once the items intended for storage are placed up on the shelving unit. Many times it is not apparent that the light will be blocked until after the storage system has been completely attached and the items to be stored are added to the shelves.

Blocking light gives you only one of two options. Either leave the shelving the way it is and deal with trying to locate things with little or no light inside the garage or remove the shelving from that particular area. Depending upon where the light or window is, this may mean removing an entire perimeter section. This results in a drastic reduction in storage space and may mean parking your car outside once again.

Another potential problem with ceiling mounted shelves is in the integrity of the strength of them. Wall mounted shelves are going to be attached more securely and have the ability to hold more weight because of the support brackets. You certainly don't want your shelving unit to come crashing down once you've organized all of your valuables.

Before deciding between a ceiling mounted shelving system or a wall mounted unit, you will need to consider all of these side issues. Light and strength of the unit are two vital elements that you don't want to compromise. It would certainly be a shame to waste both time and money on a method that's not going to be exactly what you desired. Hindsight might be 20/20, but who wants to realize that they made a big mistake?

The best part about working with Gorgeous Garages is the fact that we have years of experience behind us and are able to correctly plan out and develop the ideal, space saving unit that will work for you and your family. Garage Organization Made Easy

There's nothing easy about clutter. Looking through poorly stacked, unorganized boxes and piles to find that long, lost item is probably the last thing you want to do. So, what's the solution to the chaotic mess? The Monkey Bars storage system, plus one dedicated family "garage organization" day is most likely all you'll need to bring your life back in order.

Nobody likes clutter and piles. If you think about it, having a clean and organized storage space for your tools, toys and packed up boxes makes you feel better about opening that garage door.

The easiest way to get that garage into shape quickly is to first pull all the stuff out of hiding. You'll have to move everything anyway in order for your Gorgeous Garage installation team to put up your new shelves and hooks. Once you've got a clean space and all that empty shelving space to work with, organizing will be a breeze.

De-Clutter 101

The first thing to keep in mind about organization is to "be ruthless." Work from the basic reasoning that if you haven't used it in a couple of years, you probably don't need it. Have garbage cans on hand and throw away things that are broken or unable to salvage. You may want to make another pile for Goodwill, just as long as you resist the temptation to slide that pile back into the garage after your clean-up is done.

Invest in plastic totes. They resist moisture, can be clearly labeled, and they don't sag when the weather gets damp. Cardboard boxes fine for moving, but not the greatest thing for permanent shelf organization.

Once your totes are packed and labeled, store them in a logical order. Totes with holiday decorations should be kept up high, since you'll only have to get them down once every year. Bulky tools and gardening supplies should be stored on lower shelves with up to two rows of hooks (front and back) that can be arranged according to the season. During the fall, rakes can be moved to the front hooks with the snow shovels in the back. Once winter hits, simply switch places. Doesn't this sound like an organizational dream come true?

Children's toys, wagons and bikes can be kept on the garage floor during the summer months, but quickly hung on our sturdy hooks once the winter snow appears.

With the whole family helping, it will also encourage everyone to help keep the garage neat and clean once the project is complete. Everyone, including the children will be proud of the big accomplishment and eager to help keep it that way.

Once you've spent the day sorting, packing, labeling and organizing, you'll be ready for the final touch. Open that garage door and pull the family vehicle into its new home. Won't it be nice to finally have the floor space for its intended purpose? No more parking in the harsh elements or making a mad dash from the car to the house during a rain storm. With your new Monkey Bar system, you'll be able to truly enjoy all the comforts of home.

Why Should You Get Your Garage Floor Coated?

For many individuals, having your garage floor coated with an epoxy finish is a normal part of the finishing touches of a home. If you have never used garage floor coatings or had any experience with them, here is a list of benefits:

Protection

Most people have their garage floors coated so they are protected. Concrete is porous, and is not a substance that holds up well with repeated wear and tear. Because it is porous, oil and other chemical spills can ruin your unsealed garage floor.

At Gorgeous Garages, we use epoxy or polyaspartic polyureas garage floor coating, which not only seal your floor, protecting it from the elements, the coating also dramatically enhances the look and feel of your garage. Your new, protected garage flooring will be completely stain resistant. After a day or two to dry, your floor will stand up to pet urine, alcohol, blood, ink, brake fluid, gasoline spills, and even hydrochloric acid. You should wipe up any spills as soon as possible, but you won't have to worry about them affecting the beauty of your new floor.

With a variety of different colors and looks to choose from, you'll be able to match the color scheme of your home and increase your home value as well. The sturdy coating also allows the floor to be cleaned much more efficiently and easier than with normal concrete.

If you are planning on storing items on the garage floor, a coating will help keep your belongings safe from the moisture that an uncoated cement floor holds in. If you use part of your garage as a laundry room or a play area for young children, a finished and sealed floor makes it so much nicer.

How is the Floor Coated?

When you have your garage floor coated by our professional team of experts, you'll have a finished product you can be proud of. Depending on the type of coating you choose, and the current state of your garage flooring, the process may take up to two days to complete and about a week before you'll be able to park your vehicle inside.

First we will come in and repair any cracks in your concrete. Cracks are filled with our own, quick drying compound and then ground smooth making them flush with the floor. If you have expansion joints seams in your garage floor we also fill them, so you'll have a smooth and seamless floor.

How Long Does the Coating Last?

The key to the longevity of a beautiful and well protected garage floor is the preparation. With proper preparation and regular maintenance your floor will last a lifetime. The only maintenance is to apply a new topcoat of epoxy every couple of years.

Call the experts at Gorgeous Garages today and allow us to give your garage a complete makeover. From storage shelving to garage floor protection, your garage will go from "eye-sore" to "eye-candy" in a few short days. What are you waiting for? Call us today.
